A pentimento is trace of a change over the creation a painting; a piece of evidence of a different version of the work, that is hidden beneath a subsequent layer of painting but that can emerge back through time.
This composition begins with multiple iterations of a small musical fragment, but throughout them, very different musical surfaces are unveiled, as if they were pentimenti that had been waiting to be revealed.
