The work "Guitars of Lazaroff" consists of a highly accurate (both in notes and in time) re-recording of the guitar parts of nine songs composed by Uruguayan musician Jorge Lazaroff, with the goal of contributing to the study, appreciation and performance of his work. The project received funding by the Instituto Nacional de Música (National Institute of Music) of the Ministerio de Educación y Cultura (Ministry of Education and Culture) (Uruguay), and is related to others, such as a project to write and publish a book of transcriptions of his music (that I did with musician Ismael Collazo, and which led to the book "Adiós Lazaroff: Canciones de Jorge Lazaroff", published in 2025), and a project of live performance of songs by Lazaroff (called "Adiós Lazaroff", done by musicians Ismael Collazo and Felipe Castro).
The time it took to transcribe, practice and record this songs with this level of precision was a lot more than I first imagined (and even so I had to do plenty of editing, and I wouldn't dare say these recordings are "perfect" recreations*), but the process helped me recognize and appreciate an incredible amount of very beautiful complexities of the guitar parts of these songs, which I hope you can hear in these recordings.
*In some cases I also had to/decided to adapt multiple guitars in the original recording to only one in this re-recording, as well as adjust the tuning to the A4 = 440Hz standard.
I want to thank the Instituto Nacional de Música for the support, as well as Cecilia Prato and Andrés Lazaroff for lending me many family photographs (some of which you can see in the videos) and for treating me very kindly.
